Deepen your relationship

What is Couples Therapy?

Couples counseling is a form of therapy led by professional therapists who are equipped to help romantic partners, married or not, work through their unique challenges. This journey often involves tough yet productive conversations about one’s relationship and requires both partners to communicate in an honest and respectful manner. If you’re worried about being completely open with your partner or communicating calmly, don’t be — the job of a couple’s therapist is to mediate these discussions.

Trained to Help You

Every couple encounters a period of stress, hurt, and conflict – it’s a natural part of the journey. From deep happiness to moments of despair, you’ll encounter a variety of emotions in a relationship. Navigating these highs and lows together is crucial for fostering a healthy and fulfilling partnership. While some challenges can be addressed independently, many couples find value in seeking support from a professional, unbiased third party—a couples or relationship therapist. Our licensed therapists can help you and your partner improve your communication skills so that you’re better able to understand, listen to, and talk with each other.

Therapeutic Approaches

Our therapists offer different approaches and combinations of therapy based on the specific needs of couples.

  • The Gottman Method
  • Solution-focused therapy (SFT)
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Other Modalities

Getting Started

Your first counseling session will consist of both partners meeting with a therapist in a confidential, safe, and nurturing environment where you both can openly express your thoughts and emotions. Collaboratively, you and the therapist will foster an honest rapport and dialogue that will help to identify your specific concerns and develop goals to help with the underlying issues that brought you to seek an outside, objective perspective. Sessions are typically 50 minutes to one hour and appointment frequency is often weekly or bi-weekly; however, this depends on the couple’s need.
